Food + Football = Happy Faith

Hello hello!

I hope your summers have been going well. I know I always say that I hope you’re having a good day or a good week, but there’s something about summer that is an entity of itself.

Kids get the break for a reason – there’s something so good for the soul in just letting yourself off the hook and filling your days with only the things that make you happy. It’s a travesty that most adults in the real world don’t get a summer vacation the way little ones do.

When is the last time you just let yourself enjoy the activities that you truly LOVE, and nothing else? Do me a favor and look for a day in the near future where you can clear your schedule and do only what makes you absolutely positively giddy. I know an entire week – or more – isn’t practical or realistic, but surely you can make one day for the things that put a genuine smile on your face!

For me, that was yesterday’s football practice!

You have no idea how happy that made me.

Almost as happy as the post-practice trip to Whole Foods! Mum and I nibbled on little servings of quite a few goodies from the hot/cold bar:

Clockwise, starting with the orange “cake”: Plantain patty, warm chocolate/walnut pudding, tofu pea curry, Mississippi caviar, Ginger/Carrot Asian noodle salad, cranberry pecan couscous.

The noodles were absolutely FABULOUS – unexpectedly garlicky, but sweet at the same time. They were hands down my favorite part of the meal. The cabbage salad was a close second – I really love the idea behind cole slaw, but I just cannot handle mayonnaise! The light herb/oil dressing was a perfect accent to the ultra fresh, super crisp greens.

Neither of us was that thrilled with the Mississippi Caviar. It was on the dry side, and there wasn’t much of a flavor to it. The same went for the plantain patty. The chocolate pudding was the be all end all of deliciousness, though – it was warm and creamy and JUST like brownie batter! I seriously contemplated going back and filling up another plate just with the pudding, but mum was already taking off to explore the aisles.

I couldn’t believe she’d never been to a Whole Foods before. What was even more surprising was that we only walked out with a Cinnamon Roll Larabar to snack on back on the drive home! They didn’t have the new flavors either – GAH! I’m starting to think the cookie dough bar is a myth!

Well, m’dears, in continuation of the do what you love mindset, we’re headed out shopping for the rest of this rainy afternoon! I’m thinking Target, TJMaxx, and a few thrift/vintage shops to see what I can add to my mismatched dish collection šŸ™‚

What would you spend your time on if you had a day to do only the things that make you genuinely happy?

  1. This really made me think, because I have the summer off, and I don’t think I am using each day to its fullest.

My perfect day might go something like this:

    – Leisurely breakfast with friends
    – Morning spent on the water either water skiing, jet skiing, or tubing (or all 3) then playing in the sand with my nephew
    – Lunch outside
    – Afternoon spent walking/ exploring/ shopping
    – Dinner with friends
    – Dancing in the evening

Oh man! I’ve been going to school part time and working full time since last September, I now have five weeks left before school starts and so my nights have been free for the first time in 11 months! I cannot tell you how good it feels to know that I have absolutely nothing important to do after work! I also decided to take week off of work the week after next so I’ll have a whole WEEK of doing whatever I fancy. I can’t afford to actually GO anywhere but I’m looking forward to spending the week just relaxing, reading books, decorating the house (haven’t had time as I moved in during the middle of the school year) and just enjoying being alive!

Oh, and cooking more! And blogging!

  3. I’d eat..then eat some more…then get a pedi, then drink a glass of vino, then eat some more…all the while being surrounded by great friends / family!

  4. ooooh good question. i’d start my day with a run – maybe 5 miles. then i’d have a lovely brunch outside in the sun, with friends and wine. then i’d walk around, maybe shop (assuming i’d have unlimited funding), get a deep-tissue massage… hmmm, what else? cook a fab dinner and drink some more wine? yeah, that’s what i’d do!

  5. I definitely need to take a whole day to do the things I love but have been neglecting lately. I’d go for a hike, have a picnic, take a nap, read trashy novels – it sounds perfect! šŸ™‚

I think my perfect day would be being treated to a nice lunch out, maybe a walk at the park with good friends, coffee with parents, a good book to read, blogging at night with a homemade dinner šŸ˜€

That’s funny that all the food you were not enthusiastic about were the ones I thought would be my favorites!

Could I somehow have the Denver Broncos practice for me on top of a 14,000 foot mountain while I enjoy a gourmet meal? Is that possible? Because that would be awesome…..

Squee! So jealous of your time with the Bucs! šŸ˜€ That’s so awesome!

My day would be spent with a leisurely breakfast, lots of time alone with my cats and lots of time with my fella, and a long massage followed by a hearty dinner and delicious dessert. I’m easy to please. šŸ˜€

  9. You sound so happy!

I would most probably go our for a brunch with friend, read a good book, pamper myself in spa with massage and manicure, have a great dinner with my boyfriend and go to bed exhausted but happy šŸ™‚

awww i’d love to get to a wholefoods! it looks so good!
i need a day to myself sometime soon before i meltdown, i just need to relax, do some cooking and baking, pamper myself, spend a few hours online, and just generally potter around, i love days like that! x

  11. Your Bucs photos are amazing! I know a few peeps who would be so jealous of your time with the team! Awesome!

If I had a day all to myself you would find me on the beach. šŸ™‚

  12. My perfect day:

First of all, it would have to be September-January aka football season. Then it would have to be Sunday. Then I would have pancakes for breakfast, go read a book by the pool in the morning and get ready some football in the afternoon. Football on the couch, with the bf, from 1-11 pm. Perfect.

  13. Day at the beach, cooking a good meal with family, late night board game with wine: perfecto.

I’ve spent the past 2 weeks on vacay doing whatever I please. Some relaxing, some travelling and lots of fun. Alas, work beckons me back on Tuesday. *sigh*

A long horseback ride through the mountains with my husband. (If I could afford horses…if not a long hike would do.)

  16. Jenn says:

Oh yeah, I wanted to say I like those football pictures. Very cool
